"i" is Mike's fourth CD, with sixteen new tracks recorded throughout 2002. The CD has three collaborations; two with regular contributor, Keith Farwell, and one with Glen Sward.

This CD is a compilation of Mike's instrumentals, many of which have featured on his previous CDs. The balance is made up of new, unreleased tunes as well a number of backing tracks for songs as yet without lyrics, or from which the vocals have been removed.

The title track, destination unknown, was previously released on the ranelagh collection, along with the night-time is calling. Both have been re-recorded for this CD, which also contains a mixture of very old and very new tracks.

Obscurity is the predominant characteristic of Ephar. Tracks dwell on such themes as invisible stairs, people who live on clockfaces and emotional cripples. This is the second offering from Ephar, with Keith Farwell supplying the lyrics and Mike Raine writing the music for most tracks, with an ocassional reversal of role.

Eleven new tracks and, unusually, a traditional song make up this dozen from Mike Raine. Kathy Hickey (whistle), Bailey Tambling (alto sax), Matt Ives and Kevin Reagan (kit), and Jane Raine (vocals) make guest appearances. The CD also has the usual Keith Farwell/Mike Raine collaboration.
